And So it Begins Again

I am back on the treadmill that is 'real' life. Work and school indicate the return to the grind, hectic pace and all, and holidays already feel soo long ago.

One thing I had promised myself was that I would 'pretty' up my hands and get my nails done (fakies) after so much work landscaping, and I did fulfil this plan on one of my last days off.
I also managed one of my other favourite things, which I hadn't managed to fit in during my 5 weeks off...a visit to my Lindt cafe. Skim flat white with a hazelnut macaroon.

I will have to avoid my cafe - except for the odd treat - as I have set myself a new goal, and macaroons won't help me achieve it! I have decided to commit myself whole-heartedly to training for...a half marathon. Perhaps no big deal for some, but a very big deal for me. I am not a very good runner so this is a huge challenge. I plan to participate in the gold coast half marathon on the 1st July this year. As always I throw myself into these things, and am reading the latest 'Running' mags like they're going out of fashion!

On the home front, I purchased my big wicker hamper for the kids school bags and other school things. Looks great and is very handy!!

Kids were all smiles here coming home from their first day back at school yesterday - what else can you hope for but happy kids!!

I am about to start researching bedheads again too. Very keen to get one in the not too distant future. Heatherly Designs is one place I have looked at before - they have gorgeous bedheads! A little expensive though...

Cheers
Kylie

  1. Good on you for sorting out those nails, Kylie! I'm holding off until our house is done (I think that's always my excuse!!!)

Loving your goal RE: Half Marathon. You go girl.

The hamper looks great in that space, and you can't go past it's practicality either.

Glad to hear the kids are happy at school. If you are looking for a less expensive bedhead, have you tried design.inspired on ebay? Beautiful, beautiful stuff!

Enjoy the rest of your week.

    1. I have seen that ebay seller but forgot all about it. I think I have that one saved under fave sellers - must double check. Ever seen theirs in person? Wondering if they are good quality as they are very reasonably priced from memory.

    2. I haven't seen them in person, but I think a Decorating Forum member bought one or two. I will check with her. They use Warwick fabrics, so that's a good start. I'm planning on buying one for our guest room, so the price for a room like that is better than perfect!!!!

  2. Love the hamper! Where did you get it? I'm looking for one exactly the same for all the misc junk in my hallway!

    1. Thanks - I am so happy with it. It's actually from a small local shop - nowhere near you unfortunately. The shops stocks alot of 'La Maison' things so it is possibly from there...not sure if that's accessible in Vic? I saw one in Ikea. Not the same quality (and I imagine a fair bit cheaper) but would do the same job.

  3. Wow - you go!

My sister in law is a triathlete and is in training for her first Ironman in May! Good Luck!

    1. Those people that do the ironman are amazing! I used to want to do that one day...way too many years have passed for me now though. This half marathon is a big challenge but one I'm hoping is achievable!

  4. Good luck with the training, I used to swear that running was for weirdos but ever since taking it up I feel bad when I don't do it and I never thought I'd say that. Love the hamper too :)

    1. Thanks!I used to be a swimmer - the 11 - 2hr sessions a week kind (lifetime ago) and running has never been easy for me. It is definitely growing on me.

  5. Good luck training for the 1/2 marathon! As for bedheads, I love Heatherly Designs also, but agree the price is prohibitive! Ikea have a similar colour for a fraction of the price of the style I like. I'm also contemplating getting some chipboard, foam, fabric and a staple gun and making my own attempt (the girls on The Block last year inspired me to perhaps give it a try!).

If you find any others, make sure you post about them - I'm on the lookout! :)

    1. I contemplated making one too. I even found a blog that gave a step by step instruction (they'd made a beautiful one themselves) But I'm afraid mine will look very 'home effort' rather than perfect, so I'm on the hunt. M (first comment) reminded me that there are a couple of ebay sellers who have a large range of fabric available including warwick fabrics. Will let you know if I find anything else!

  6. Your nails look gorgeous, Kylie! Most of mine broke off pre Christmas, and I haven't had a chance to fix them...let alone paint them! Your trunk looks great! I bought one similar last year for the kids school bags and associated 'mess' and it works a treat :)

    1. I've seen the trunks used on a number of blogs - that's where the idea originated I think. It is a system that is working well with the kids! I'm not used to the nails yet - typing takes me double the time with all the errors I make!

  7. Your wicker basket idea for hiding school bags is a great tip - it's only day three and I'm already tired of that gigantic maroon thing clogging up my nice foyer! Off to get one tomorrow.

    1. I am so happy with how convenient it is! I just have to remind my kids to remove their lunch boxes before putting the bags in! (at least they are actually popping the bags in themselves without having to be reminded!)

  8. That basket is a great idea, so good that I almost want to go straight away to find one (it's past 10pm!!). So I'll settle for tomorrow and if I don't find one I'll have a look at Ikea, where I'm going next week.
A basket like that will look great in my hallway/ corner of lounge room and hid the less attractive bag pack!

    1. Anette, I'm so happy with it, I'm thinking of putting a slightly smaller one in the entry area too!
